BEZUIDENHOUT VALLEY

Taken its name from the farm purchased in September 1861 from the widow of BP Viljoen by Frederick Jacobus Bezuidenhout.

Bezuidenhout Farmstead

  • Bezuidenhout Farmstead, Bezuidenhout Park, Marcia st – Two houses are on the premises. The main house was for Bezuidenhout Sr. The Bezuidenhout family cemetery is close by. The house dated circa 1860. The southern wing of the house was added in circa 1890.

Jonkershuis, Bezuidenhout Park

  • Jonkershuis, Bezuidenhout Park – the second house on the premises was occupied by the son Barend. Circa 1890

House Yukon

  • House Yukon, 33 North Ave cnr 2nd st- this house was built in 1911 for TF Allen, the Mayor of Johannesburg (1917-1919).

•    Bezuidenhout Cemetery

  • Bezuidenhout Cemetery, Bezuidenhout Park – It has a twin headstone of Frederick Bezuidenhout Sr and his wife Judith. Other family members lied buried here. One headstone for 2nd Lt Muller who died in an air disaster in 1940 has the prop of an aeroplane. He was a pilot in the SA Air Force.
