MACHADODORP

Machadodorp was founded in 1895 on the farm Geluk, proclaimed in 1905. Named after Joachim Jose Machado, Governor- General of Mozambique. He was the engineer who surveyed the railway line from Lourenco Marques (Maputo) to the Transvaal for the NZASM. This town was the Governing seat for the ZAR from 5 June to 27 August 1900.

NG Church

  • NG Church, Molen St – This church was designed by Gerhard Moerdijk and completed in 1927.

Cemetery

  • Cemetery, Molen St – Contains Boer and British war graves of the 2nd ABW. The British garden of Remembrance contains the graves of 111 Imperial soldiers.

Barclays Bank

  • Barclays Bank , Generaal Smit St – Apparently used as the mint, the coins for the ZAR were punched in the cellar of this building during the period of the ZAR Government seat.
