HEIDELBERG
Heidelberg originates as a trading post. It was laid out on the farm Langlaagte in 1866. It became a municipality in 1903. Named after Heidelberg in Germany where trader Heinrich Ueckermann had been trained. During the First War of Independence 1880-1881 this town served as the capital of the ZAR under the Triumvirate of Paul Kruger, PJ Joubert and MW Pretorius
Dutch Reformed Church

Dutch Reformed Church, Church st cnr HF Verwoerd st – The corner stone of this stone church was laid on 12 April 1890 by Piet Joubert, Commandant- General of the ZAR. The church was consecrated on 13 March 1891. Proclaimed a National Monument on 6 September 1968.

NZASM Station, Voortrekker St – This building was opened on10 October 1896. This building was declared a National Monument on 7 November 1975.

AG Visser House, Van der Westhuizen st cnr Merz st – built in 1890 this dwelling was occupied by Dr AG Visser, medical doctor and a well-known poet. His bust is on the corner of the streets.

Bank building, Church Street – This building was occupied by Standard Bank of South Africa in 1904
Bank branch

Bank branch, 60 Strydom St – This building was built in 1875 by FK Mare, the first landdros of Heidelberg. The premises were let out to the Standard Bank of British South Africa between 1879-1881. This building was proclaimed a National Monument.
De Rust Farmstead

De Rust Farmstead, Plot 3 Boschhoek, R 42 to Vereeniging – This farmhouse was built by FJ Bezuidenhout in 1906. The house was designed by MCA Meischke. This building was declared a National Monument on 9 December 1988. The Bezuidenhout family cemetery is close to the house.

Old Gaol

Old Gaol, Jordaan St- This building was erected in 1888. Now the premises of the MOTH club. .Next to the gaol the stone walls for the animal pound is still visible.

This cemetery contains the graves of the pioneers of Heidelberg, Concentration camp, Anglo Boer War graves. Graves of those perished in the Great War.

Nederduits Hervormde Church

The Nederduits Hervormde Church was designed by Gerhard Moerdyk. The cornerstone was laid on 15 October 1932 and inaugurated on 14 April 1933.

Town Hall, Voortrekker st – This town hall designed by Gerhard Moerdijk and was built in 1939.
Presbyterian Church

The stand was donated by the government.. The church was officially opened by Rev. McKenzie on the 13th February 1906.
Malan House

Strydom and Van der Westhuizen st. The home of the Malan family. The father was the principal of the High school and the son was the moderator of the Dutch reformed church of the region. They raised a black boy found as a street child, Hezekiel Justus Tshunga who became famous in his own right.';
Kenton Villa

This house was occupied by Henry Weakly, a lay preacher for the Methodist Church.. The house was also used as a manse of the Presbyterian Church.
Oak View Manor

Build in 1917. One of the occupants was a Dr Nixon, district surgeon master of the Free Masons and a member of the Heidelberg Club.
