Parys

Parys was laid out on the farm Klipspruit and proclaimed in 1882. It became a municipality in 1887. It was named after Paris in France in Afrikaans form.

  • NG Church, Church st – The cornerstone was laid by the moderator of the Orange Free State Synod, Reverend JJT Marquard on 14 January 1899.

  • Methodist Church, Middel st - The cornerstone was laid by HO Vos, Mayor on 17 September 1914

  • St Edward's Anglican Church, cnr Buiten & Dolf St – The cornerstone was laid by WH Weekes in July 1915

  • Post office, Buiten st- This building was erected in 1936

Railway Station

  • Railway Station -This building was erected in 1930. This was on a branch line from Vredefort to Dover (mainline Bloemfontein to Germiston). The line is no longer in use. The building is in ruins.

Old Magistrate Building

  • Old Magistrate Building – This building was built soon after the ABW. A part was used in 1907 by the South African Constabulary. It now serves as a museum.

Suspension Bridge

  • Suspension Bridge, Boom St – This bridge was constructed in 1919. It leads to Golf Island in the Vaal River.
