Luneburg

Luneburg was established in 1870 by the Hermannsburg Mission Society. It was named after the Luneburg in Germany.

  • This church was built in 1883

Fort Clery

  • Fort Clery – on the church premises – this was built to defend the inhabitants of the hamlet against the Zulus during the Anglo-Zulu war. The Luneburg laager was built around the church. This earthwork fort was built during November 1878. It was named after Major CF Clery. Only the earthworks remained.

Braunschweig Lutheran Church

  • Braunschweig Lutheran Church – The cornerstone for this church was laid on 6 May 1928.

Monument

  • Monument, road between Luneburg and Braunschweig – this memorial commemorates the young men Heinrich Filter and Larsen who died in a skirmish with Zulu warriors in 1879.

Zendelingspost church Ntombe

  • Zendelingspost church Ntombe – just off the road from Braunschweig to Piet Retief on the Transvaal side This is a missionary church close to the Ntombe battle site.
