PRETORIA
Capital city of South Africa. Founded in 1855 on the farm Elandspoort and became the capital of the ZAR in 1860. It received city status in October 1931. Named after the Voortrekker leader Andries Wilhelmus Jacobus Pretorius (1798-1853).
Wierda Bridge

Wierda Bridge – cnr Old Johannesburg Rd and Wierda Rd, Eldoraigne – The bridge crosses the Six Miles Spruit. It takes its name from Sytze Wierda, architect and Chief of Public Works of the ZAR. Built in 1891 the contractor was JJ Kirkness. This steel bridge was erected and was made by the Actiengesellschaft fur Eisenindustrie und Bruckenbau of Duisberg in Germany. Imported by the firm Harkort of Duisberg. Proclaimed a National Monument on 10 December 1965.
