Boekenhoutfontein

  • Boekenhoutfontein – About 20 km north of Rustenburg near Boshoek. The farm bought in 1862 and occupied by Paul Kruger from 1873 until 1883 when he moved to Pretoria as President of the ZAR. Five buildings were erected on the farm. Declared a National Monument in 1971. It now belongs to the Kedar Heritage Lodge:

Pioneers house Bronkhorst House

  • Pioneers house Bronkhorst House – the oldest pioneer house built in 1841 – Bronkhorst was the original owner of the farm

Main house

  • Main house – built by Paul Kruger in circa 1870

First Kruger house

  • First Kruger house – built between 1862 and 1873

Peter Kruger House

  • Peter Kruger House – built for his son Pieter in 1892 – the son took over the farm when Kruger left for Pretoria.

School Room circa 1880

  • School Room circa 1880 – the corrugated roof was flattened to stretch as there was not enough plates to cover the roof. This was done by Kruger running an oxwagon over the sheets
