Elandslaagte

A railway stop close to Ladysmith on the way to Wasbank, a small farming and coal mining centre. Known for the Anglo Boer War Battle of Elandslaagte, 21 October 1899. One of the successes for the British.

The Hollander Monument

  • The Hollander Monument, opposite on top of the other hill -  Memorial to the eight members of  the Dutch Corps who fell in this battle. Designed by Gerhard Moerdyk. This was the end of the of the volunteer Hollander corps as a unit. At the foot of the hill is the Burgher memorial containing the names of those wo fell in the battle.
