This village was founded by Alois Hugo Nellmapius and named after his daughter Irene Violet. Form part of the town Centurion

Viaduct

  • Viaduct, Glen Ave(M18) – this culvert spanned the Pinedene River. The keystone is inscribed IMR 1901 – the only known example of the Imperial Military Railways on a bridge in Transvaal (Gauteng)

Doornkloof

  • Doornkloof, Jan Smuts Ave – This is the house of Jan Smuts on his farm.  – The British Army needed buildings that could be erected at short notice. This house was at one of their camps. Jan Smuts bought this house in 1909 which was re-erected on his farm. He stayed in this wood-and-iron house until his death in 1950.
