DE RUST

It was laid out in 1900 on the farm of PJ Meiring, De Rust, from which it takes its name from Dutch for ‘rest', 'repose’

    Dutch Reformed Church, le Roux st – The cornerstone was laid by Rev JA Beyers on 28 November 1900. Inauguratedon 28 November 1902. Designed by the Oudtshoorn architect George Wallis, A monument to commemorate the centenary of the Great Trek of the Voortrekkers on 5 Sept 1938 is in the gardens. Also, a commemorative obelisk to JP Burger, a minister who died on 24 February 1942. Declared a National Monument on 8 February 1985.
