Edenburg

Laid out on the farm Rietfontein in 1862, it became a municipality in 1891. The name is said to be biblical (Eden) or named after Edinburgh in Scotland, the birthplace of Reverend Andrew Murray for many years the only minister in the then Orange Free State.

Town Hall



    Town Hall, Church St – The cornerstone was laid by the Administrator of the Orange Free State, ER Grobler on 25 October 1925. This building was declared a Provincial Heritage Site.

Anglican Church



    Anglican Church, Church St – The cornerstone was laid by Hi Excellency Sir Hamilton Goold-Adams on 16 November 1905. (Goold -Adams was the Deputy Commissioner of the Orange Free State, Lieutenant-Governor until 1907 and then Governor).  Consecrated as Members in Christ Church on 28 November 2015.

ABW memorial



    ABW memorial – in front of the Dutch Reformed Church, Church St – It commemorates the burghers who died in the ABW 1899-1902.
