HOUGHTON ESTATE

Established after the 2nd Anglo Boer War (1899-1902). Named after the owners of the land, the Houghton Syndicate or Houghton Estate Gold Mine Company formed in 1889 by prospectors who came from Pietermaritzburg.

St Johns College



    St Johns College, St David Rd – 1907 – An Anglican school designed by Herbert Baker. The school was opened by Lord Selborne. The chapel and tower were built in 1926.
