LOERIE

Settlement about 11 km north of Gamtoos river mouth on the R331 Rd. said to take its name from the Loerie River, a name referring to the Knysna Loerie, a a Turaco bird species occurring in the woods along its banks. The narrow-gauge railway line came in operation on 3 April 1914. The line closed in 2011.
