MUIZENBERG
On the north-western corner of False Bay. It develops from a cattle-post to a military outpost when Simons Bay became the winter anchorage of the Dutch East India Company in 1743. Named after Wynand William Muijs, sergeant in charge of the post in 1744 and later commander of the garrison. Alternatively, the name is derived from ‘Moetjesons, a Khoikhoi group who lived there. The name Moetjesonsberg occurs on a map of 1782 for the mountain there.
Muizenberg Station
- Muizenberg Station, Main Rd – Designed by JC Tully. It was built in 1912-13 and replaced the old station. It was officially opened on 7 June 1913 by the minister of Railways and Harbours, Mr Henry Burton. It was declared a National Monument.
- De Posthuys
- De Posthuys, Main Rd – Erected in February 1673 by the VOC as a military observation post. Also known as Stegman’s Rust from 1880’s to 1912, a holiday cottage for JA Stegmann. At the end of the 18th century a ‘Posthouder” and ‘Onderkoopman” used the house. During the battle of Muizenberg in 1795, it again was a military post. Declared a National Monument on 7 March 1980.

- Post Office
- Post Office, Main Rd – Completed in 1911. It was the first post office in South Africa to receive mail by air. It was later used as a magistrate office. Currently use as a SA Police museum.
- All Saints Church
- All Saints Church, cnr Main Rd and Church St – Date below bell-tower -1890.
